We pride ourselves on being responsive to very specific needs within our area of expertise. Specific needs are just that….very specific to context, situation, people ability, access to resources etc. Because we protect our clients’ privacy, we can’t give you a list of our clients, however we can give you some sample scenarios which give an indicator of how we go about tailoring our work to client need.
Scenario 1 – Video-Conferencing & Solutions
Sometimes the only difficulty with getting the help we need is geographical distance and viable time use.
A remote school was having difficulty managing a 7 year old child who presented significant risk to other children and the teachers in the school. The child’s behaviours were very challenging and the child was not able to respond to the usual behavioural strategies and relationship management that worked with many kids at the school. The staff was at a loss as to work out the best way forward.
We used email, google drive, tele-conferencing and video-conferencing to share documents, gather data, and work out a whole-of school plan to increase the child’s engagement with the school, their class and teachers, and to extinguish the dangerous behaviours. So far, the evaluation of the program and the results continue to be positive…
Scenario 3 – Advice about resources & local resourcefulness
Specific situations and contexts are not always represented in text-book solutions. We specialize in ‘out-of-the-box’ settings and situations that require practitioner know-how, experience and practicality. Local knowledge is vital to an effective local solution involving the resources and resourcefulness that are already there. We make sure that we familiarize ourselves with what you need and then, with what might be practically available to you in your context, and which will benefit the kids in your care.

Scenario 2 – Training the Adults
Working collaboratively with adults who work as teams in the interests of children is the most effective way to achieve change in educational and developmental settings.
A regional secondary school recognized that they were having significant levels of bullying occurring in classrooms, on the outside recreational areas, and on the buses. Working with Continuum Psychology the school was able to identify that anxiety in the staff, the student body, and the parent body was likely a major underlying reason for the bullying issues and unsafe behaviours that were occurring. Collaboratively, we established key staff teams who trained in practically achieved calmer classrooms, calmer staff interactions, and calmer staff-student and staff-parent interactions.
The adults in family units, classrooms, playgrounds, schools, sports teams, and educational systems are just some of the systems in which we work with adults to acheive some more positive outcomes for kids.
Once we have established what the needs are, we determine whether or not the supportive training we offer is better delivered with small groups, subject staff, adult family members, whole of school staff, student mentors, or by individually driven action research. The process is simple and effective…the aim is to quickly work ourselves out of the task at hand so as to develop independence and sustainability where the children and young people are situated.
Scenario 4 – This could be your need and our solution…
We enjoy our interaction with clients but we have no need to create work for the sake of it. We’re busy and, understanding that you are too, we work efficientlly with time and resources…yours and ours. However, we also understand that while individuals, families, educational settings and systems might know they want some help, they may not always know the specifics of the help they need. Sometimes getting the right help is a matter of knowing what questions to ask. Ask the right question, and you get the right help.
